Trauma is the real or perceived threat to life, safety or bodily autonomy. It overwhelms a person's ability to cope, which leads to a wide range of physical and emotional effects that can last for a lifetime without treatment. Some people avoid treatment because it's painful to remember, and they go to extreme lengths to block the memories. If you cope with the pain with partying, toxic relationships, food, self-harm or filling up your schedule so you don't have time to think about anything, then you aren't alone. There's no shame is finding ways to survive pain. Healing means finding ways to cope with pain that's aligned with your values and help you engage with your life today.
Healing from trauma does not mean you forget. It means you can keep the past separate from the present. We will explore how your past trauma is invading your life today and work on breaking those patterns. Viewing the trauma through a safety lens is vital to helping you thrive in the life you have built and continue on your path of healing and growth.
